You, Me, We

You, Me, We
by
Matthew Ivan Cherry

You,
a school girl’s wish
made manifest
so real by playing house
a young boy’s test
to pressure prove his manly mouse
‘twas love that brought you here

Me,
squeezed from my mama’s grip
a product of my daddie’s drip
‘twas love that brought me here

We,
a sum
of other’s dreams
genes in jeans
brought together
naked

Love brought us to this point
where we cover
our wounds
with new scars
our knees baring record
of a life well-lived
proclaiming

Us,
a together sum
usurping dignity
from life’s profanity
making it all
so sacred
